Size and sound
Choose an air conditioner sized appropriately for the space you need to cool - there's no benefit in having a unit with a cooling capacity too large for your home. A properly sized air conditioner will running almost continuously during the hottest day of the summer, and by choosing the correct size will result in efficient operation during the entire cooling season. A grossly oversized air conditioner will run only for a short period, never reaching peak efficiency.
Sound sensitive air conditioners cool the house without all the noise. When choosing your central air conditioner, choose a unit with a lower speed condenser fan and insulated scroll compressors. These types of features reduce vibration and excessive noise. A noisy air conditioner can be a nuisance, especially when trying to entertain guests outside during those warm summer months.
